IE Compatibilty Mode Win 11 and Java

I have a legacy website that uses java. On machines running windows 10 with Java installed, the site runs fine in IE compatibility mode. However, it will not run on a windows 11 machine in IE compatibility mode configured the same way. I've installed Java, and entered the website url into the trusted sites in the Java control panel.
Note, it is not java script - java script is turned on. This was supposed to be supported until sometime in 2028 according to what I've read. What am I missing?

    Please tell me the path to where I would see the option to enable the scripting of Java Applets (as shown in your image) in Microsoft Edge. Internet Options? Are you referring to Internet Explorer?

    The first sentence in the document link you provided says:

    This article applies to:
    Platform(s): Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Mac OS X

    I don't understand how settings in Internet Explorer - which is not available on Windows 11, pertain to the question I asked.
