Unable to create a PAM request (approval is required) after implementation of MIM 2016

Good morning :),
after a recent cyber attack we want to implement a Privileged Access Management solution and therefore I installed Microsoft Identity Manager 2016 in accordance to the online documentation.
Unfortunately, the documentation does not describe what to do when I want the requested PAM role to be approved by an admin and therefore I get an error message when creating the request on the client.
When I remove the tick from "Approval required" in the MIM portal then the user gets no error messages.
Can someone please help me to understand what is needed to solve my problem?
I guess the workflow for my scenario is missing.

I have added our SMTP server details during the install and also deployed the sample portal. The approvers of the role get emails and login to the sample portal to approve them.
Their emails are updated in AD as well as in MIM-Portal Users view.

Can I ask you which documentation you used for the installation of PAM?Have you edited or created new workflows for the aprroval of request from PAM?

yeah, that is the same documentation that I have used.
Nevertheless, I can not find a hint how to create a workflow so that I can approve those. -
