Azure Maps Weather Service historical wind data

First of al I want to express my grattitude: We are really happy with Azure Maps, a lot of the features it contains map directly onto usecases we encounter in our business. Today we started using the historical weather service api. In this specific case we want to add weatherdata to some of our historical data sets, enriching it with the weather situation on that specific moment in time. A lot of the information we need is in there, but we are missing wind data. Wind data is crucial for this use case. Is there a way to historically retrieve this?

As IoTGirl pointed out, it looks like Azure Maps doesn't currently provide historical wind data. Not sure if there any plans for that to change in the future (this is a new service).

That said, one possible alternative is Azure's Planetary Computer. It has a collection of open data sets that are easily accessible in Azure. Here are the weather related data sets: https://planetarycomputer.microsoft.com/catalog?tags=Weather I believe this team is still working to onboard many additional data sets, but they have linked out to some of those data sets that are available on external sites as well.

Hi @Tim thank you for your appreciation of Azure Maps and leveraging this forum to improve the product as well :). From my research I can see that Wind conditions can be accessed for current time: Weather - Get Current Conditions though it is not mentioned in the Weather - Get Daily Historical Actuals.

I will ping Product Team if there is a way to retrieve historical wind values and if not, whether it is on the roadmap or not.

FYI: I also searched on feedback.azure.com | Azure Maps and couldn't find a feature request for wind historical data.

The product group does monitor the request and they can plan for the implementation in the future. Once you log the feature request you will also be notified of the status of the request.
