Starting Windows 10 in Safe Mode

Is there a recommended way to start Windows 10 in Safe mode? I must've read half a dozen different procedures described in various places but it always seems to boot up normally. Mostly they involved holding down a key while booting - or while pressing the computer's power button - or while selecting Restart but nothing ever seems to work for me.

    Hi johne53,

Good day! This is Jhakesong an Independent Advisor and I will be happy to assist you with this.

I am sorry to hear about the inconvenience. Give this a try and see if it works in starting your computer in safe mode.

    1. Press windows key + R
    2. Type msconfig and press enter
    3. The msconfig box will pop up
    4. Click the Boot tab
    5. At the bottom part there is Boot Options.
    6. Tick the box for Safe Boot
    7. If you need internet while in Safe mode, select Network (This will start your computer in Safe mode with Networking)
    8. Hit apply and click Ok
    9. Allow restart.

You will need to go back to this setting if you don't need to start in safe mode anymore to remove what setting you have applied.

Let me know how it goes. Have a great day!

    Hi johne53,

Thanks for replying. You will need to go back to msconfig to remove the tick for the Safe Boot box as it will not be removed automatically.

    Many thanks JhakeSong

In fact it's not for me - it;s for one of my neighbours but I'll be sure to pass your instructions to her. Just one question....

        6) Tick the box for Safe Boot

Will that automatically untick itself after the reboot - or will she need to untick it manually to go back to normal booting?
