Microsoft Puzzles me, Out of Office is on permanently, I have empty the cache , reinstalled Teams to no avail. This is on a mac

How about Teams web client, does the issue persist there?
I have empty the cache
May I know how did you empty the cache? If you haven't yet tried deleting the Settings.json file, it's suggested to have a go and see how it goes:
- Sign out and quit Microsoft Teams.
- Go to the following folders：~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams
- Delete Settings.json file, restart the Teams to check the result：
