Keep getting a verification code I didn't ask for

In the past week I keep being sent a verification code to my linked account. This makes no sense as I haven't been logging into my hotmail account from any new locations. I could only guess that someone has got hold of my password and is trying to access my account. I have changed my password on the hotmail account as a security measure, but I am still being sent verification code. What could be happening and how do I stop it?

    Hi fleachy2,

Welcome to Microsoft Community, and you've come to the right place. We are happy to assist you the best of our capabilities. Since you never requested code to be sent to your email, then I am thinking of 2 things. First, the same as what you are guessing and it's good that you have immediately changed your password. Second, it can also be that your Microsoft account is yet to be verified. To verify your Microsoft account, please go to the link below:

Should the issue persist, please do not hesitate to reply to this thread, so we can further assist you in resolving this matter.

    Regards,
