New Error: "Run-time error '53'" ... MacPDFM

Question

Hi:

With one of my recent upgrades to Office and/or Acrobat, this error message newly pops up every time I open Word:

I have to hit "End" three times to get to WORD functionality (the same message pops up twice more after the initial window). Word otherwise runs fine.

How does one make this go away?

My previous answer was based on incomplete information. The Acrobat add-in creates the Acrobat tab on the Ribbon. This tab is the only way I know of to include both hyperlinks and fonts in a PDF created from Word for Mac.

The first step is to open Adobe Acrobat (Yes, Acrobat, the full version. No, not Acrobat Reader, no, not Word) and choose Help>Check for Updates. This should replace the old add-in with a new one that doesn't raise the error.

If the update doesn't make the Acrobat tab appear, re-open Acrobat and repair your installation (The command location varies with your edition of Acrobat).

If you no longer have a full copy of Acrobat installed, then proceed with the following advice. If updating Acrobat doesn't fix the error message, proceed with the following advice. Below is the response that was originally marked as an Answer:

The latest edition of Acrobat PDFMaker appears to be incompatibile with Word and PowerPoint. To fix this:

1. Start by closing Word.
2. To open your hidden user Library folder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu and choosing Library. The folder will open.
3. Open ~/Library/Group Containers/UB48T346G9.Office/User Content.localized/Startup.localized/Word. Please note that the User Content and Startup folders will not always have .localized appended to the name when you view them in the Finder.
4. Drag the Acrobat add-in file to your desktop, then restart Word to test that the crash is gone.

For PowerPoint, the path is almost identical, but look in Startup.localized/PowerPoint.

Yes, that's it. Delete SaveAsAdobePDF.ppam.

Your previous screenshot shows the path to linkCreation.dotm. That's the file to delete the error message in Word.

The folder is there, but by default is hidden. That's why I included the step:

• Hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu and choosing Library.

Then the Library folder is unhidden.

To make it permanently visible, open a finder window showing the top level of your user folder (the one that holds Desktop, Documents, Downloads, etc.). Then choose View>Show View Options and check Show Library Folder at the bottom of the dialog.

BTW, ~ is Unix for the user folder, so you would never see ~/User.

Thank you for your help.

I have managed to remove the run error for Word but now I have the following message pop-up when I open Powerpoint (see image below):

Error Message: PowerPoint couldn't load the add-in "/Users/isabelleanne/Library/GroupContainers?UBF8T346G9.Office/UserContent.localized/Add-Ins/SaveAsAdobePDF.ppam".

FYI - there was no file in the power point start up folder. I just deleted the file in the word folder as well as the Acrobat add-in file.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you; it's been crazy at work.

Unfortunately, and it may be because I am doing something wrong, but I cannot find the UB48T346G9 folder you mention above. But I can find a similar folder named UBF8T346G9.

However, no Acrobat add-in file exists there:

And the similar folder for PowerPoint is empty.

Any and all suggestions most welcome, since this bug persists and it's a bit irritating to have to close that window three times for each and every Word file I open.
