All,

I don't know if this will work for you or not but we did find this Regkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveMovie\d evenum{4EFE2452-168A-11D1-BC76-00C04FB9453B}\Default MidiOut Device\

Find the device you want and check its MidiOutId and put that in the Default MidiOut Device\MidiOutID value.

Let us know if this helps.  Also if you can post the maker\program you are trying to use, then we can check on compatibility.

Microsoft moron, why don't you put in your shortkeys just one message since you don't answer anything anyways, say "we're not responsible for any flaws that we have in our operating system, spite 1,000's of them search their website which we have no idea if it has any information regarding this issue."  Yeah frustrated musician well said.

    Uma,

I have looked at the asio4all forums and find no solutions to the problem identified by nglow. I too have this problem, trying to use Band in a Box and Sonar 7 Professional Edition with my new Windows 7 computer. Sometimes I can get these programs to work but most often I can't. There is always a message that the midi output device is already in use, probably by Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth.

I have found in comments elsewhere that this synth is imbedded in the Direct X software so I suspect that the solution is not a simple one.

But, I think that Microsoft should at least try to help those of us who have purchased new computers with Windows 7 who run music sortware.

Can we get some response please.

This is a ridiculous answer.   The question is how to disable a microsoft-provided piece of software that comes with the O/S and microsoft forwards it to ASIO?    I don't get it.   The people trying to use Windows for music software have little choice with Windows 7.    A large mistake was made rendering many installations useless.   That needs to be dealt with.
