Sharing database on a network

Toby 1 Reputation point

I'm using SQL Server Express and i am trying to share a database on our network so that multiple computers can update/add records on the database.

On the server. i have enabled TCP/IP (and set TCP Port to 49172 for IPAll) and Named Pipes.
I've opened a port in Windows Firewall - port 49172 as TCP.
With a computer on the same network, i attempt to connect in SQL Server Management using tcp:Desktop-xxxxxxxx,49172 but login always fails. Desktop-xxxxxxxx is the pc with server.
I've also tried other combinations such as Desktop-xxxxxxxx\SQLEXPRESS

Am i missing something or doing something wrong?
