Unable to download installation files, check your internet connection and try again

I'm running windows 7 32-bit with service pack 1 but I can't seem to be able to install Windows updates on it (Error code 80072EFE) and I'm trying to install VisualStudio build tools to use it for python. I keep running into this error and I've tried the following:

  • installing the certificates of the file -disabling firewall -running the file as administrator

and none of it is working.
