Connected Standby Mode causing Random Shutdowns?

I have a Dell Vostro 15 5510, that has had the problem of unexpectedly shutting down overnight.

We leave this laptop on so that the user can come back in the morning and already have the necessary websites and web portals already signed in and ready to go, he just has to unlock windows to begin working.

Lately when he has come in in the morning, the laptop has completely turned off on him and he has boot it back up.

I checked through the event logs, and it is showing unexpected shutdowns occurring at night over the last few days. This only happens after the laptop shows that it has entered "Connected Standby Mode" due to idle timeout.

Sleep and hibernate have both been disabled, but I'm not sure how to try to disable this connected standby mode to test if this is the issue.

Any suggestions? Windows 21H1

    Hi @Anon 312

    From Tecnopedia:

Connected Standby mode is primarily a device’s battery operating mode on the Windows operating system. In this mode, the device is turned on, but the display will be dark. Windows suspends all applications that may be running and puts the device in a state that consumers minimal power. When a user punches a key or touches the screen, the device instantly becomes operational.

Connected Standby differs from sleep mode in its ability to instantly transition between an off-screen standby to an on-screen online mode.

Switching this mode off will not resolve the issue as it’s the mode that will give you what you need in this situation.

However, the fact that the laptop is in this mode indicates an issue with the mains power supply. I recommend that you ensure that the laptop is remaining powered on over night as it looks like the battery is dying and it’s powering off.

I hope this answers your question.

    Thanks.

Anon 312, you are not alone in this problem. I have the same problem too. Very often, when i left my laptop closed at home (with no sleep at lid and timeout), i cant connect to it from my phone. After i coming back home, i saw annoing message at Event viewer "The system is entering connected standby Reason: Idle Timeout.". Linus Sebastean at LinusTechTips told about this problem (in his case laptop wakes up in a bag). Thousants of people have the same problem, but Microsoft and laptop brand dont give a **** about this. People need determinated behavior. If i set "do not sleep" after lid closed, my laptop should not sleep at any reasones, including modern bulls**t modes!!!! You can find Linus's investigation by googling "linus tech tips modern standby"
