Windows Media Player 12 cannot use seek bar to go backward or forward when streaming avi file.

In WMP 12 on Win 7, I have an issue when I try streaming an avi file using the file->open url menu item to open the file.  The video plays just fine but I cannot use the seek slider bar to move the position backwards or forwards.  If I download the avi file first then play it through WMP, it works fine but I need full functionality when streaming the video from a URL.  This works fine using WMP 11 on WinXP.  Is there a fix for this?

    Hi,

    1. Does the issue occur with other files as well?

    2. Does the issue occur only when you stream videos?

    3. From where are you trying to stream videos?

    4. Does the issue occur with a particular URL?

    5. Are you watching live video or recorded video?

For now you may try the steps provided in the following article and check if that fixes the issue.

Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter.

The uninstall-reinstall process for Windows Media Player 12 had no effect on this issue, either.

    Thanks,

Here are the replies to your questions:

    1. Does the issue occur with other files as well?

    yes, all avi files.

    2. Does the issue occur only when you stream videos?

    yes

    3. From where are you trying to stream videos?

    internal web server

    4. Does the issue occur with a particular URL?

    no

    5. Are you watching live video or recorded video?

    recorded video

Running the WMP Settings troubleshooter had no effect on this issue.

As I mentioned previously, this works using WMP 11 on WinXP so I believe this is a bug in WMP 12.

    Thank you.
