After the update, my PC freezes anytime I hover over an icon or unhide my taskbar for about 10 to 20 seconds. It has done this in the past, but restarting the PC brings it back in line. programs don't run slow once opened. it's very frustrating to try to do anything with this problem. can someone solve this?

    Hello WRichieRichW,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your PC. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Run System File Checker (SFC) and DISM to check for and repair any corrupted system files.

    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Wait for the scan to complete.
    • Then, run the following commands one by one:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    Perform a Clean Boot:

    • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    • In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab, check "Hide all Microsoft services", and then click "Disable all".
    • Go to the Startup tab and click "Open Task Manager". Disable all startup items.
    • Restart your PC and see if the issue persists. Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem. These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get back on track.

    Update or Roll Back Drivers:

    • Sometimes, driver issues can cause freezing. Update your graphics and other critical drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
    • If the problem started after a driver update, try rolling back to the previous version

If your issue persists after trying all the steps above, sa this point, we have exhausted all troubleshooting and I recommend that we try to perform a clean install to get your computer back into a working condition. Please ensure that you backup any important data, including Documents, Pictures, Videos, and more. After that, you can find instructions on how to install Windows 10/11 in the following article by MVP Andre: How to: Perform a Custom Installation of Windows 11 and Windows 10 - Microsoft Community

    Best Regards,

When typing the command, you have a "/" with no subcommand: "dism /online / Cleanup-Image /", that is what is tripping up the process. It is missing the CheckHealth, ScanHealth, or RestoreHealth. Ensure you type the entire command in, it should work.

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    Hello,

To run this command as admin, you need to start "Command Prompt" in administrator mode. That is:

    1. search for "CMD" on your taskbar.
    2. Hover your mouse on "cmd", and right click. Select "Run as administrator".
    3. You will see the black command prompt window, with "Administrator..." in the title bar.
