I have hp pavilion a1747c Desktop with a HP 22" LCD monitor.  The other day when I powered on my computer I heard it started up then I turned my monitor on and a box poped up on the screen that said no signal input then really fast another message pops up that says monitor going to sleep and I have tried everything to wake it up and nothing. I had to hold down the power button to shut down my computer and I tried hooking my pc up to 2 different monitors and still the samething happens. Also when I attach the power cord to my pc then plug it into the wall outlet it automatically strats up by itself. HELP PLEASE

Thanks for the info. I can't  try any of these steps to try and repair it because my computer is not displaying anything on the monitor the only thing that I can see at all on my monitor is a message that comes up and says "no signal input" then another message come on the monito that says monitor going to sleep. then the monitor goes to sleep and I can't get nothing elses to come up on the monitor. and when I connect the power cord to my tower and plug it into the wall my tower automatically powers on without me pressing the power button

    thanks again

I have the same problem. It started yesterday. Computer is a 3 year-old HP Slimline running Windows Vista with a HP x1707 LCD monitor. Finally got it running although the monitor speakers aren't working.(The headphone jack works,though...)Needless to say,I haven't shut it down again yet,for fear of the same trouble.

    Hi racingfast,

Windows opens, but after a while the monitor displays the message

Most likely the computer has entered sleep mode. To bring the computer out of sleep mode, use the following steps:

You may try the following steps and check whether you can fix the issue.

Method 1: To bring the computer out of sleep mode

    1. Move the mouse or press the Spacebar.
    2. If the computer does not wake, press the keyboard Suspend button. You may need to press the Suspend button on the keyboard twice (the suspend button has an icon that looks like a quarter moon).
    3. If the computer still does not wake, press the Power button on the computer case for one second and release.
    4. If the monitor does not wake, restart the computer and turn off suspend mode:

NOTE: Turning off suspend mode does not solve the problem, but it will help you determine if the problem is related to suspend mode or something else. Steps for Windows Vista :

    a. Wait until the hard drive activity light on the computer is not lit and then press and hold the Power button on the computer case until the computer turns off.

    b. Wait 5 seconds and then turn on the computer by pressing the power button again.

    c. Click Start, Control Panel, System and Maintenance, and then click Power Options.

    d. Select High performance, and then click Change plan settings.

    e. Change the settings to Never.

    f. Click the Save changes button to accept the changes, and then restart the computer.

    1. Use the computer with the power settings turned off to see if the message continues.

    • If the message opens after a software program is opened, such as when starting a game, the software is forcibly changing the display resolution to a mode that is not supported by the computer and monitor. Do not use the software or change its video settings. • If the message opens after certain period of time when the computer is not in use, the problem is most likely being caused by a screen saver. Turn off the screen saver to see that the problem no longer continues. If the above steps don’t work, then you may refer the following HP support link and try the steps provided: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00061509&cc=uk&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3356598

Method  2:Also make sure that the Display adapter is up to date.

    1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance and then clicking Device Manager.‌

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    1. In Device Manager, locate Display Adapter you want to update and then double-click the device name.
    2. Click the Driver tab and then click Update Driver and follow the instructions.

You may also refer the Manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers.
