Excel pivot table not refreshing correctly

I created a pivot table from some data. As I was reading over it, I realized that two items were really the same, just one was misspelled. I went into my data table and corrected the misspelling. When I refreshed the pivot table, rather than incrementing the count of the correct spelling and omitting the count for the incorrect spelling, both items simply disappeared completely. I closed the file and reopened it without saving and tried again. Same problem. I tried making a new pivot table, with the corrected data sheet, but the old incorrect data are still there, even though they aren't on the data sheet any longer. If it matters, the data sheet came from Qualtrics (which sometimes means it's protected), but this particular field is one I typed myself. Please help.

    I'm Jen, and I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.

    When you refreshed your pivot table, it got a new snapshot of your data source and concluded that no longer exists a field with that name, and it can't calculate a field that doesn't exist. To fix the problem, go to the field list in your pivot table and drag your new field into the data area. Please refer to this related thread for more information.
