Outlook scrolling issues in calendar and contacts

Outlook's calendar and contact pages has scrolling issues that I can't find a way around. For the calendar it does not like to scroll smoothly with the trackpad nor dragging on the touchscreen. The scroll bar icon will move up and down as if it is scrolling but the screen either jitters around or, in month view, the scheduled appointments just disappear. In contacts the blue highlighted box will move up and down the list of contacts but the actual list will not visibly move. If I try to select a contact after having "scrolled" then it will open whatever contact should be in that place which most often isn't the one shown. This happens nearly every time I use Outlook and the only way to fix it so far is to close the program, reopen it and select the date or search the for the contact I want to look at. If I do have a moment where one or the other option does actually scroll the calendar or contact then the other option becomes completely unresponsive.

A remote technician was able to have the scrolling work properly by using a mouse wheel however I do not use a mouse. This has to be an Outlook issue since I installed the software on a brand new laptop and the same issue is occurring as on my Surface Pro 7. Scrolling used to work just fine, I'm guessing a recent update broke something.

Hi. This issue has been happening for years. I've had this problem on multiple machines dating back to 7 years ago. Now I have another new laptop, and here is the same problem. Everything in Outlook scrolls fine except the calendar. Do you have a fix for the above? It's not isolated to an update, but to the calendar in Office 16. Please fix this and post the solution. When it came out there was posts all over about this problem, and 7 years later, same thing. WOW.

Okay, so here's a strange thing that I've stumbled on and have been able to repeat on both machines:

I go into Outlook and then into the calendar module. Try to scroll and the issue persists. I click outside of Outlook such as the desktop which makes Windows take the focus off Outlook. I then click back into Outlook, click into another module such as mail, then click back into calendar. It will then take longer to become responsive, almost 5 seconds or so, but then will scroll correctly with the weekly information visible. But, only with the trackpad, touchscreen still is unresponsive.

I have repeated this process on both machines with the same results. To test it I have closed and reopened Outlook between tests. Also, if I click out of the Calendar, interact with another part such as scrolling through an email, then back into the Calendar it's mixed as to whether it will scroll properly or not.

    Strange...

    Hi Glenn,

I created the new profile as asked and the scrolling issue remains.

Just tried the first option. I didn't find Outlook as a standalone option for repair so repaired Office. That didn't make a change to my experience. I then tried repairing Microsoft 365 which seemed to reinstall the office products but left the account in place. This also didn't make a change to what's happening.

As a test I fired up my older laptop that was replaced by the Dell. It is running Win 10 and does not have a touchscreen and scrolling works fine there. So that leads me to believe that the problem is either with Windows 11 or a conflict between the trackpad and a touchscreen and not the Outlook application.

Unfortunately, it is past the time for me to revert to Win10 on either of the machines running Win11 to see if that corrects the issue.

    Cheers,

    Kenrick

    Hello all,

I had this issue and found a fix that works for my case which is different to the OP as I am using a mouse.

    I did the following:

    Settings>bluetooth & devices>mouse

the slider 'lines to scroll at a time' was set to about 30, have reduced that down to 10. and now the issue is solved.

My theory is that the Outlook calendar cells are regarded as a a line each, so the slightest scrolling will skip over the whole day. Perhaps this is what was happening with the OP's trackpad.

I hope this helps someone out there.
