Ms Teams freezes, if other household members use Youtube on quality >360p

When I use Ms Teams (wired, not wifi), while other household members use either:

  • youtube with a quality >360p (wired)
  • youtube via iphone (wifi)
  • instagram films via iphone (wifi)

then my Ms Teams freezes.

We have the best internet we can get (1000 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload), so it cannot be the speed (I think)

What can I do about it?

    Hi @Tony de Waal ,

    Does the freeze issue occur when you are doing any particular tasks in Teams like in a call or meeting? Or you meant Teams freezes regardless of what you are doing every time when the other household members are using youtube or instagram as you listed above?
    Have you had a chance to test using different internet connections to see if the issue persists?

    Besides, based on my experience, below are some suggestions you could have a try and see if it could have some improvement:

    1. Make sure Teams client has been upgraded to the latest version. To do this, you can manually check for updates by going to the ellipsis (...) menu next to the profile picture and selecting Check for updates.
    2. Disable GPU hardware acceleration via Settings > General, select the checkbox of "Disable GPU hardware acceleration", restart Teams:

    Thank you for taking the trouble to answer my question.

    Your first question is 'when does the freeze occur':
    The freeze occurs when I am in a Teams-call. The other people can hear and see me. But for me, everybody freezes and I hear nothing anymore.
    The freeze occurs at the moment one of my household members starts one of the the disrupting programs (Youtube or Instagram).
    When I shout around the house, and the person stops what he is doing, then I can get the message 'bad network-quality', the freeze shivers a bit and then the freeze is over. Problem solved.
    The link between these two events is really direct.

    Your second question is 'have I tested different internet connections'
    I possess 3 kinds of internet connections:

    • my household home connection (that is the one I am complaining about)
    • my mobile telephone connection: I can make it a hotspot. Then I can make my computer use this hotspot. This one is in no way connected to the problem.
    • I also sometimes use Teams under VMware (when I work a home for a client). This is ofcourse a totally different Teams-installation. And here it happens too !

    You gave me 2 suggestions:

    Your first suggestion is: update Teams
    I have one that.
    (But ofcourse I cannot update Teams under VMware from my client. )

    Your second suggestion is to Disable GPU hardware acceleration
    I have done so and I hopefully await the situations, but my household members were not in the last 3 days.

    So I am still hopefull for the results of your last suggestion and will let you know the result
