Hello, we are facing some storage issue due to users turning on version history with no set limit. Is it possible to track who changed the versioning settings for document libraries in SharePoint 2019? If not possible, any way to set a fixed number of versions (currently thinking of PS script to run weekly to do this) or disallow users from changing this setting?

    Hi @joycieluvspink ,

    There is no available ootb way to track who changed the versioning settings. You could try to use following powershell commands to limit major version.

    PowerShell:

    Add-PSSnapin "Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell"
    #Get the web
    $SourceWebURL = "http://sp:12001/"
    $ListName="MyDoc"
    $Spweb = Get-SPWeb $SourceWebURL
    $SPList = $Spweb.Lists.TryGetList($ListName)
    $SPList.MajorVersionLimit=0;
    $SPList.MajorWithMinorVersionsLimit=0;
    $SPList.Update();
    write-host "Done"

    there is no own version history for changes made in list settings (including versioning settings) i.e. it is not possible to check who changed it. Users with full control permissions may change these settings. You may create custom Sharepoint timer job which will run by scheduler (e.g. hourly), check versioning setting and if it is changed change it back to correct values.
