BACKUP ON WINDOWS SERVER 2016 - INSUFFICIENT SPACE

Hello good day,

Something very strange has been happening to me for a week.

I had a daily complete image backup set up on my Server 2016, it had been perfectly running for months.

For a week the copy has not been made due to allegedly insufficient disk space.

I have formatted the destination disk, which is 1TB, while the C:/ of the server only uses 480GB

When executing the copy, an unknown volume appears that increases the supposed size of the backup, and therefore does not fit on the destination disk.

I am going crazy, and I am unable to delete that "ghost" volume.

    Hello

The reason for insufficient space in windows backup is old shadow copy snapshot too full.

The solution is to manually delete the oldest shadow copy snapshot.

To delete snapshots, you need to use diskshadow.exe. You can run the following command from the standard command prompt.

    diskshadow
    list shadows all
delete shadows id => To delete a shadow copy of the specific ID

or delete shadows all => To delete all the listed shadows.

or delete shadows oldest => To delete the oldest shadow on a target volume.

You can also refer to the documentation:

    Hello Weili-MSFT !!

Thank you for your answer, but i am afraid it still does not work. I did all you said and the system cleaned all shadows. (see log attachment)

But when I try to execute the full reconstruction back up it gives the same error. I have a new screenshot with more information about the error, it says:

    204860-fail-copy.jpg

    Which translates in English as:

    204977-error-message-complete.png

After the fail, when I execute manually the copy it still appears the same volume:

    204990-fail-copy-volume-strange.jpg

    Any Ideas???

    Thank you so much!!!

    Hi,

It seems that this unknown volume should correspond to the recovery partition above.
It is recommended that you re-filter the partitions and data that need to be backed up to reduce disk usage.
