Device: Surface Laptop 4

WAIK /WinPE x64 (Boot.wim) not MDT

Is it possible to have Surface Laptop 4 drivers /keyboard -I/O to WinPE boot image?
Download and extracted the drivers, injected in the boot.wim image, but no luck.

Found the following instructions but it describes for MDT scenario, I have WAIK WinPE boot image instead.

    Hi there,

Yes, it is possible to customize a WinPE image following the same process as any other Windows image. In addition to customizations that are common to Windows and WinPE images, such as drivers and packages, WinPE also has some customizations specific to it.

    WinPE: Mount and Customize https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/winpe-mount-and-customize?view=windows-11

For boot images with other versions of WinPE, customize them by using another method. For example, use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) command-line tool.

Customize boot images with Configuration Manager https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/osd/get-started/customize-boot-images

Manage boot images with Configuration Manager https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/osd/get-started/manage-boot-images#modify-a-boot-image

As I said already, have injected all drivers but still KB is not enabled. So something is special with Surface Laptop 4 compared to other devices.

There might be an addition Io driver that is needed for the keyboard. In the Windows image on the surface, extract all the drivers:

    dism.exe /online /export-driver /destination:c:\surfacedrivers.

Then inject all drivers into the boot.wim.
