We have developed a Visual studio 2015 shell application. As part of the installation of this shell application, we are trying to install vsix this application. Sometimes, the vsix installation takes longer time than usual.

From the vsix installation log, we are not able to get the information regarding the time delay. The log just says that the installation is successful.

On thing we noticed that whenever the vsix installation takes longer time, we could see that a .TMP file gets generated in the temp folder in the same location as that of the vsix installation log. This temp file seems to be similar to our application .config file. Looks like vsix installer is taking our applicaiton .config and modifying it during installation.

Whereas during the scenarios where the installation is fast as expected, this file is not generated.

Somehow I feel that this unusual time delay happens whenever the n/w is slow. But I am not sure about it..

So if you could let me know on what scenario does the vsix installer generates this .tmp file, then I could ensure we avoid such scenarios and there by the speed could be maintained consistently..

    Hi @hemalatha Nallusamy ,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

The .TMP file is usually used to store temporary files.

You can try to disable the automatically check for updates: go to Tools > Options > Environment > Extensions and Updates.

Besides, what is your Windows version? Have you checked for the updates and updated to the latest version?

    Sincerely,
    Anna
