What is "Tracing Service for Search in Exchange" on Exchange 2016? We recently built 2 Exchange 2016 servers with CU22. We found that some critical services were set to disabled and/or not running. So, I am auditing all the Exchange services now. This service is set to disabled. I am trying to determine if it should be running. I can't seem to find a good description of what the service actually does besides what is listed in the description field "This service provides trace logs for search components in Exchange". It sounds like it is related to message tracking, but that is working. I am looking for a better explanation.

    Hi @MichaelFuller-1588

This "Tracing Service for Search in Exchange" should be set to running and automatic on your server. Below thread mentioned this service as well: FYI - KB3184736 (Security Update for 2016 CU2) Issues

And I also found this link which lists the services for Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 and the required roles for these services. This service is applied to Exchange 2016 as well.

For the steps Restart Exchange Server services through PowerShell

And we may check the trace logs under the path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Logging\TraceLogs
