I just deleted an important VM. Is there any way to get the data and programs back?

Assuming you are trying to recover data from an azure VM running on windows OS. If yes, by default there is no additional feature to recover if the programs/data is deleted from the VM. There are 2 options you can look at

  1. If there are any backups configured for VM, you can restore the required data from a file level restore or disk level restore even the entire VM can be recovered. By default, azure doesn't keep any backup of your VM, it is a user responsibility to protect the VM using azure VM backup

  2. Check if there are Windows Volume Shadow Copies configured for the OS volume. (C:), If yes, you can restore using VSS shadow copies. Under each file property you will see Windows Previous Versions.

If no backup or shadow copies configured, you cannot recover deleted data or programs unfortunately.
