Windows Server 2019 Database activition

Hi,

I was hopping someone can help me. I have set up a lab not connected to the domain of the organisation I work for (Windows server 2019). I have been given a product key to activate windows server database addition, this is a volume licence. I cannot get this to work. Does my lab need to be connected to the company domain the licence to activate?

Yes, ideally that is correct. Assuming you used evaluation media then as a work around , might also try using a kms key as intermediary step.

Dism /online /Set-Edition:ServerStandard /ProductKey:N69G4-B89J2-4G8F4-WWYCC-J464C /AcceptEula

then if successful use your own product key below after reboot

slmgr /ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx slmgr /ato

So this is already Datacentre addition. will the /Set-Edition:ServerStandard switch work? can you downgrade?

No, it is not possible to downgrade the edition. You'll need to clean install it but choose Standard option at setup.

this is sorted now thanks,
I did not have the evaluation media so did not use the DISM, but the slmgr commands worked a dream

I am activating Windows server 2019 Datacentre and I installed it via a USB using the Rufus tool.

I got a ISO image that was set up though rufus. I do not know were the initial image came from. Why is it important?

sorry missed this comment.
it seems to want to connect to a KMS. which i do not have assess to. it gives me error code 0x8007232B.

So i tried to use the slmgr /ipk command to enter the key. but that didn't work, there maybe an issue with the product key i used. i am just waiting for some to confirm the key
