To troubleshoot similar issues in the future, you can use Azure Resource Health, which provides insights into the current and past health of your resources.
Any chance that your VM is running MySQL Server?
The type of application that you intend to run on your VM determines the kind of VM sizes you go for.

For example while running SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines, we recommend that you continue using the same database performance tuning options that are applicable to SQL Server in on-premises server environments.
However, the performance of a relational database in a public cloud depends on many factors such as the size of a virtual machine, and the configuration of the data disks. In this kind of scenario one will use memory optimized VM sizes due to the workloads.
Use premium SSDs for the best price/performance advantages for the storage.
Also the choice of VM is based on amount of flow of information that is the read/write operation to disk.

No. No SQL servers. Just DNS, Active Directory, and NPAS.
