Issues with SSMS windows authentication between AADDS and Azure AD.

Hi,
My setup is the following:

1: All servers ( Including SQL ) have been migrated to our Azure Active Directory Domain service ( name.com)

2: Our on premise domain is name.local with only laptops still joined to our on prem.

3: Planning to join all laptops to Azure AD via Endpoint manager ( Intune ) But when I tested this on a new laptop via MDM. SSMS still wanted to authenticate with local Domain\ for windows authentication instead of using name.com which did not work.

4: I've confirmed the primary domain on Azure AD is name.com but for some reason it still wants to authenticate on SSMS with name.local authentication.

Note: We have a PAAS AADDS solution for our name.com Domain for servers which also syncs with our on-prem via Azure Ad Connect.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your detailed post and I apologize for the delayed response!

Based off your issue, it sounds like you plan to join all your laptops to Azure AD via Endpoint Manager, but when testing this on a new laptop using MDM, your SQL server still wanted to authenticate with your local domain.

To gain a better understanding of your issue, can you share any screenshots of what you're seeing?

When joining your laptop using Endpoint Manager - the SSMS login prompt, is that popping up so you can sign-in and start the join process?

Can you share any documentation that you're following?

Hello, I am experiencing this exact issue. Can I receive some help via this thread still ? @JamesTran-MSFT

I can gather screenshots if so.

But same situation. Machine was on a name.local domain and was migrated by Azure AD Joining the device. Now when the user starts up their local SQL server, windows authentication automatically selects his azure profile which of course cannot work as it is not a user in the security section of the server.
