Mac OS (Apple Silicon) BackUp Tab missing for OneDrive

Before formatting my MacBook Pro M1, i could see backup Tab option in OneDrive's Preferences Menu, which enable be to sync my MacBook's Desktop & Document folder automatically i.e. any change(Addition & deletion of files or content) in both the folders was automatically updated in OneDrive, which is no longer the case as Backup Tab is missing in Preferences Menu.

And it was shocking for me as Microsoft Support Executive told me that Backup option is not available in Mac OS OneDrive, i am not able to understand how i had been using the above feature in my MacBook Pro for more than one and half month until last week.

can anybody please help to resolve this issue or rather i should say a mystery.

Earnestly looking forward for some positive response.

Did you download OneDrive from the Apple's App store? If so it seems like that version does not have the Backup tab. You will need to download the OneDrive installer from Microsoft's website. It is currently located at the following link.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/onedrive/download

From what I get OneDrive needs additional hard drive access permissions which I guess the App store version doesn't allow.

    Hi @Rishi Malhotra

    Weclome to Q&A forum ~

Can you take a screenshot of the Preferences tab for OneDrive?
I find there is a 'Backup' tab after Preferences as following image.

If this is the function you need, please refer to 'Updates to Files On-Demand on macOS', you can check OneDrive version, The OneDrive version in the picture above is version 22.033.
Here is a list for more details of OneDrive for Mac release notes (Production ring).
In addition, please check your MacOS version, check whether it is above 12.3.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

    Hi Emily

In my case, i don't have this backup after reformatting the mac, checked with Microsoft Support Team, as per them Mac OneDrive doesn't support, which came as a shock to me.

Sending you the screenshot of preference menu with missing backup tab. just to update, i have tried every version from Microsoft OneDrive Release note page (https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/onedrive-release-notes-845dcf18-f921-435e-bf28-4e24b95e5fc0?ui=en-us&rs=en-gb&ad=gb#OSVersion=Mac)

    Look forward for some resolution!

    Hi Emily

As i mentioned above, before formatting my MAC, this backup tab was available and i haven't opted for insider previews as well.

anyway, i have selected it now. also i am sharing the version which i am using, see attached image. And as per my understanding this version is the latest one.
