Removing 1 of 2 Exchange 2016 servers

I currently have 2 Exchange 2016 servers. One was meant to be temporary and one a production. I no longer wish to have the temporary one and need to remove it, while keeping the production. Here are some specs:

We are in a hybrid mode
No mailboxes are on the temp one (except for arbitrary mailboxes)
Send connectors reference the temp (along with the production)
We do have on-prem mailboxes.

So far I think I need to migrate the arbitrary mailboxes to the new server
Delete the reference to the temp send connectors
Uninstall from control panel

Am I missing something or anything else that would cause a nightmare? Please let me know.

    Hi @g s

I would suggest shutting down this temporary server and wait several days to see if there will be any problems with client access or mail flow.
If everything works fine, you may uninstall Exchange from the control panel.

    Hello

In your place, I would start by checking the following points:

    • Where are the MX pointing? The result of the MX probably goes to your Firewall “so check the proxy, NAT etc. »
    • If it's to the Production server, it's good, otherwise the streams will have to be changed.
    • Check the sending connectors "check / add the production server"
    • Check the reception connectors "especially if you have a relay, you will have to redo the same configuration on the production side"
    • Check if you are not using a public folder “if so, they will have to be migrated”

Once you have checked the following points you can turn off the server temporarily, the time to validate the proper functioning of the production server.

After that You will just have to turn on the server and uninstall exchange
