A friend of mine in Italy read in a newspaper that Microsoft is closing down msn Messenger.  Is this true?

Yes. MSN Messenger is being phased out and replaced with Skype. When logging into Skype for the first time with your Microsoft account (same one as MSN Messenger), your contacts will automatically be transferred over.

I already have both a Skype and MSN account. How do I merge them? Also, will we be able to create custom emoticons for Skype now? That's one of my favorite features of MSN! I've been using MSN almost as long as I've used the computer for internet! Do you know some place for me to give Microsoft feedback about this? I want to give them a piece of my mind. Ugh.

Don't know about the latter - but as for the former - just go to the skype logon and choose to logon with your Windows Live/MSN Messenger/Hotmail account (cannot recall the phrasing) and it will walk you through merging your accounts.

bah, my netbook hates skype and it always always lags when i have skype up.  So good bye to mircosoft in march 2013 and hello to aim and google talk! And i can't use skype at school. And let's face it, I already have contacts on aim. No hardship to move on over.
