As part of a migration to Azure, we will be ordering a data box to import historical data files to ADLS. We have a Y/M/D type folder structure implemented in ADLS to organize these historical files.

Will the data box be able to import files into that folder structure, or only to the container specified?

@Charlotte Kruse We apologize for the delay in responding to this issue.

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A. I understand that you have questions about importing files to ADLS using Data Box. Data Box cannot import files into the root folder in the storage account. Always create a folder under the share for the files that you intend to copy and then copy the files to that folder. The folder created under block blob and page blob shares represents a container to which the data is uploaded as blobs.

Please refer to this document for more details. Hope this helps.

Please let us know if you have any further questions and we will be glad to assist you further. Thank you!
