Hello Pagefile'sys,
Welcome to the Microsoft Community!
I understand that you have an issue with Edge not being able to turn off completely and starting itself from time to time, and I understand your frustration.
To turn off Edge completely, you can follow these steps:
- Search in the Windows search box and open "Settings" -- Application -- Start -- to turn off the edge browser switch below startup.
- Open edge browser -- click three points in the upper right corner -- Settings -- System -- Turn off startup enhancement and close "Continue to run background extensions and applications after Microsoft Edge is closed".
- Windows searches for and opens Settings -- Account -- Login Options -- turns off automatically saving rebootable applications when logged out and restarts them when logged in.
The above is the solution I organized for you that you can try at present, The above is the solution I organized for you that you can try at present, I will provide you with further technical support.

Microsoft claims that Edge is now part of the Windows operating system, and makes it extraordinarily difficult to disable (if at all). If it is part of the Windows OS, why is there a "set default browser" option (that does not work)? Why is Edge available to the Mac OS if it is part of the Windows OS?
This is the last year I pay for anything Microsoft. I bought a MacBook Air M2 16" yesterday. I am only maintaining my Microsoft subscription long enough to convert everything over. When that is done I will cancel my Microsoft subscription and close my account. I am willing to pay extra for the superior Mac OS and Apple laptop. This user is tired of Microsoft trying to shove their inferior OS on my family. Feels so liberating to finally say goodbye Microsoft.
Buying a MacBook Air for my son on his birthday.
