    Hello Barbara,

My name is Hanem, an independent advisor, and I'm here to help you.

I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue, and I will try my best to assist you.

Are you using any 3rd party Anti-Virus software? If yes can you try disabling it and start download a file and see if that works? If the issue still persists, Please try the following guide. In order to get help with this issue, you need to go to the registry editor by pressing Windows+R together, Type "Regedit" and press enter to open the registry editor. Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\AttachmentOnce you have found the Attachment folder click on it to locate ScanWithAntivirus on the right side, right-click on ScanWithAntivirus, select modify and put the value as "0" (i.e equals "off").This will fix the problem of

"Virus Scan Failed" every time you attempt any download. If this won't work, Go to Windows Security > app and browser control > reputation-based protection > toggle off both "Check apps and files" and SmartScreen for Edge."Feel free to reach us back if you need help.

So many people all over the place replying with this registry 'fix'

What it seems to be doing is actually turning off the virus scan. Not ideal in a work environment.

I struggled with this myself for literally days and it turned out that APPLOCKER was blocking MPOAV.DLL (part of Windows Defender) causing the virus scan failed message. I am posting this to potentially help someone out there in a similar position who uses AppLocker.

Check your AppLocker logs immediately after you get the virus scan failed message.

    My log contained this:

%OSDRIVE%\PROGRAMDATA\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS DEFENDER\PLATFORM\4.18.24090.11-0\MPOAV.DLL was prevented from running.

This log is located in Applications and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows/Applocker/Exe and DLL

If you are experiencing issues with downloading a file due to a failed virus scan, there are a few steps you can take to try and fix the issue:

    1. Update your antivirus software: Make sure your antivirus software is up to date with the latest virus definitions. This can help to ensure that your antivirus software is able to detect and prevent any potential threats.
    2. Disable your antivirus software: If updating your antivirus software doesn't work, you can try temporarily disabling it while you download the file. However, make sure to re-enable it after the download is complete.
    3. Use a different antivirus software: If your current antivirus software is consistently blocking downloads, you may want to try a different antivirus software. There are several free and paid options available that you can download and use to scan your system.
    4. Download from a trusted source: Make sure that you are downloading the file from a trusted source. Avoid downloading files from unknown or suspicious websites, as these may contain malware or viruses.
    5. Contact the file provider: If you are still unable to download the file after trying these steps, you may want to contact the file provider and ask if they can provide you with a clean version of the file that has been scanned and verified as safe.
