TWAIN errors when using Canoscan3200F on Win7

I am getting TWAIN errors when using Canoscan3200F on Win7. Tried using Canoscan Toolbox 4.5, Irfanview 4.32 and Windows Fax & Scan - all give variations of the TWAIN error, bascially not recognising the scanner, although it looks OK in Device Manager.

Canonscan says - unable to open TWAIN source.

Irfanview says - rmslantc.dll missing.

Windows Fax & Scan says - no scanners detected.

    Hi Chain Of 1,

Make sure a certain folder path is in the PATH environment variable. Follow these steps:

    a)    First, determine the correct path to add into the PATH environment variable.  Look in C:\Windows\twain_32 and there should be one other folder (Example: - CNQ4803). This is the path that is needed to be added into the PATH environment variable. C:\Windows\twain_32\CNQ4803

    b)    Modify the PATH environment variable. Go to Control Panel, System, and then choose Advanced System Settings in the left hand column.

    c)    This will bring up the System Properties dialog (it should already be on the Advanced tab).

    d)    At the bottom of this dialog is an Environment Variables button.  Clicking this button will bring up the Environment Variables dialog.

    e)    In the bottom panel, scroll until you find the variable named Path.  Select this one and then hit Edit button to bring up the Edit System Variable dialog.

    f)     In the Variable value text box, scroll all the way to the right and then add in the path C:\Windows\twain_32\CNQ4803 that was determined earlier.  Make sure to separate this value with a preceding semi-colon.  And also be careful not to make any other changes to this value. Click OK.

    Hi Chain Of 1,

    ·         Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

    ·         What is the complete error message?

    ·         Have you installed the related software/drivers for the scanner?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Run the hardware and device troubleshooter.

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Hardware-and-Devices-troubleshooter

Method 2: Update the latest software/drivers.

    Thanks for the reply Sandeep.

This is the first time I have tried this scanner on Win7.

It worked OK under XP - but Win7 XP Mode also fails to scan.

I have deleted (using DelDrv) & reloaded drivers & software several times. I'm using the same versions that your link pointed me to, namely Driver 8.5.1.1 & Toolbox 4.5.

Using Toolbox, I get error - 'Unable to open TWAIN source. Please check connection then restart Toolbox'.

Using Irfanview, I get - 'The Program cant start because rmslantc.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.' Then 'TWAIN error. Cant connect to device or TWAIN driver not installed'.

rmslantc.dll file is within C:\Windows\twain_32\CNQ3200. So I have added C:\Windows\twain_32 AND C:\Windows\twain_32\CNQ3200 to the PATH environment variable. Whilst reinstalling, I have manually removed rmslantc.dll & it has reinstalled.

Using Windows Fax & Scan, I get - 'No scanners were detected'.

    Thanks.

    Hello Chain of 1,

Did you install both the updated TWAIN driver and the Canoscan Toolbox?

From what I am reading, these applications are dependant upon each other.

Have you contacted Canon on this issue as well?  Their support or forums may run into this commonly whereas we only see it on occaision.

    Let us know.

    Best regards,

    Matthew_Ha

    Matthew

Yes I have removed, rebooted, reinstalled TWAIN driver & Toolbox, rebooted. Still get errors.

I've contacted Canon support but have not reached a solution, so they think it must be a Microsoft issue.

    thanks
