I already created a user defined label. With the label, I tried to create a doc and added my personal Gmail account has the right to view the content. When I opened the doc in google docs its showing that file is corrupted and can't open the doc. Meanwhile I have a Microsoft account with same google account. I signed in my word app using that account, then I was able to view the content inside it.

Dear User932045

Thank you for your quick response.

I'm sorry I didn't explain it clearly in the above reply. I read your post carefully, per your update, it seems that when you apply the label to the document with your M365 account then if you add your google account and want to open the same labeled document in google docs, you got the error message, and the file can't be open.

Given this situation, per our search, this behavior maybe happened because the Microsoft sensitivity label is incompatible with google document due to the google doc is a third-party product to Microsoft. Apologize for the inconvenience caused.

In this scenario, if you want to open the document in google doc, you could remove the label in this document then upload the file to google doc and open it.

To remove a sensitivity label that has already been applied to a file, unselect it from the Sensitivity menu. Detailed information to remove the label, please refer to Apply sensitivity labels to your files and email in Office - Microsoft Support

Besides, we'll report this behavior to the related team and hope they can improve the Microsoft products compatibility with other third-party products as soon as possible.

If you need any further assistance, please feel free to post back.

Sincerely,

Stacey | Microsoft Community Moderator

Sorry, I think you got a wrong idea. I was successfully able to apply a label with my M365 account. If it's a user defined label we can specify who can view the doc while applying the label, right? For testing purpose, I added my google account there (ex: ******@gmail.com). Then I tried to open the same doc in google docs. But it was not getting opened. The error message was ' Can't open this doc file appears to be corrupted'.

    Dear User932045

Good day! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Per your description, it seems that you can't open the sensitivity label applied document in google document with your google account, but the file can be opened by your Microsoft account.

If my understadning is correct, according to the official article Learn about sensitivity labels - Microsoft Purview (compliance) | Microsoft Learn mentioned that To apply sensitivity labels, users must be signed in with their Microsoft 365 work or school account.

So the sensitivity label can't apply to google documents with google account. Apologize for the inconvenience caused due to the feature limit.

Given this situation, We kindly suggest you to submit a feedback in Word · Community (microsoft.com) to make our products and services better for you and others.  It is the best platform for us to listen to your opinions and make our products better serve you and others, which is the official suggestion box for this.
