I dont see why it wouldnt work. As long as you have Azure and on-prem in place, it should:

Setup test lab with AADConnect + AzureAD tenant
Hi,
I would like to run some tests with AzureADConnect features, synch rules etc. I have a small onpremise lab environment running on Hyper-V. One AD forest with couple of Domain Controllers running there, few test users.
I also got this Visual Studio Enterprise Subscription. It contains Microsoft 365 Developer Subscription (E5) as a benefit. If I activate that benefit, it will deploy new subscription for me and a AzureAD tenant.
Has anyone attempted to install AzureADConnect server and synchronize few test users to AzureAD tenant created under Developer subscription? Would it work? Or if anyone can suggest alternative way to setup lab with AzureAD tenant + AADConnect I would be grateful.
