Hi,

We need to migrate few VM's which are currently running on Suse 9 & Suse 10 from on-premises to Azure, there are home grown applications running so there is a very less possibility to do an in place upgrade for these VM as customer doesn't want to do an upgrade due to application dependencies.

I can see that on Azure Suse 11 SP4 is supported, is there a way I can run my Suse 9 & Suse 10 VM on Azure without doing an upgrade and migrate them from on-premises as-is.

Any help \ idea will be really appreciable.

@Kamal Dhingra Thank you for reaching out to us and I apologize for the delayed response!

I see that you have a requirement to migrate Linux Suse 9 & Suse 10 VM from on-premises to Azure. Which is currently not supported(Officially) per documentation. article says that Azure Migrate automatically prepares VMs Suse 11 sp3 onwards, but for older OS you can perform the preparations manually.

Meaning that you need to perform those preparations manually for OS versions that are supported to run on Azure.

    Hope this helps!

    Update:

In case I follow the mentioned steps and do the migration will the older OS VM run stable on the Azure Platform.
Not 100% guaranteed that it will work or not.

Will there a support from Microsoft or Suse on the OS.
No support for Microsoft since it is not supported OS version.

Will I be able to run the Azure Native services like Backup for this VM.
It may work but if VM backup gent extension fails then you would not be able to backup your VM.

Will the VM agent extension run for this VM in case running on a older OS platform ?
I think the extension installation may fail. Refer to - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/linux/endorsed-distros#supported-distributions-and-versions
