Unable to save in existing spreadsheet in updated Excel

I'm unable to save changes/updates to a spread sheet. I followed directions in a previous threat to to File-General and select different file type. When I did so, there were no options for File Type. In addition, I seem to be in "read only" with no ability to change it. I was originator of the spread sheet and never sent it to anyone where I'd need to have it be "read only."

How do I get it back to Read/Write and ability to save changes? On top of that, I've tried to copy, paste into a new spreadsheet and to save content in other files/folders. The only way I can get it all saved is on a Google spreadsheet or in a MS Word file.

Please help. Thanks.

    Hi Melania,

My name is Riley and I'm an Independent Community Adviser. I'm also a regular Microsoft customer like yourself and I'd love to help you with your problem.

Have you tried saving the spreadsheet under a different file name?

Does this happen with all spreadsheets or just that particular one?

    Awaiting your reply,

    Hello.

Yes, I have changed the file name and I have changed the save location.

It has happened in the past with other spreadsheets but usually an update fixes it. This time it didn't.

    Thanks,

    Anna

Did renaming it and saving it to another location work?

No. In my original request for help, I explained that.

    Please do the following:

    1. Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard
    2. Press the R key
    3. In the box that appears, type "appwiz.cpl"
    4. Click "OK" or press the ENTER key
    5. Locate Office 365 in the list of apps and select it
    6. Click the "Change" button
    7. When the Repair Wizard appears, select "Quick Repair"
    8. Click the "Repair" button
    9. Click the "Repair" button again

Office will now attempt to repair your Office apps.

If this does not fix the problem, repeat these steps again choosing the "Online Repair" option in Step 7.

Please let me know if this helps.

    Awaiting your reply.
