Hey guys I’m new to windows server have to learn it for uni
So I have a sort of thick client setup, my home network uses laptops with local accounts. I have added a server with server 2019. I have setup a file server which works fine but I am having issues with access rights. I want a certain user on the network to have access to a folder but when I try to add the user onto access rights it only lets me add users on the server? How do I make it so certain accounts outside the server on my local network can access certain files

    Hi @Munaib Ishaq ,

That's right. If you haven't Active Directory Domain Services installed to your environment, you need to use server's local account for giving permissions.

You can create user accounts for those users.

To access Local users and groups: Click Start > Run. Enter lusrmgr. msc in the box and click OK.

A certain user can access this network share by a local account SERVER\Account.

If you want an external users to access resources, you need to make changes to firewall too.
