Hello,
Welcome to Microsoft Community. I will certainly help you with the issue that you are facing.
I would like to guide you on the difference between headphone and headset.
- Headphones are designed to playback sound or music and are placed close to user’s ears. A headset always has a microphone that are attached to it, which allows user to speak.
- Headphones allow user to just listen to music or sounds. However, headsets also do the same, but they also have the microphone that allows the user to speak while listening.
If you are facing issues with the headset or the headphones, you may try the following methods and check if it helps.
Method 1: Run the troubleshooter
This will automatically detect and resolve the basic issues or settings that might cause this. Follow the steps below.
- Press Windows + W.
- Type “Troubleshooting” and hit Enter.
- On the left pane, click on view all.
- Click on Recording audio and follow the prompts.
Similarly, run the “Playing Audio” troubleshooter as well.
If the issue persists, try method 2.
Method 2: Uninstall and Reinstall drivers
I would suggest you to uninstall the driver for the headphones and the audio drivers. To do so, visit the computer manufacturer’s website to download the audio drivers. Once you have downloaded the audio drivers, follow the steps below.
- Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.
- Click on “Device Manager” from that list.
- Expand Sound video and game controllers from the device list, right click on the driver and then select “Uninstall”. On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for this device” you may select that and then remove the corrupted drivers from the computer.
- Do the same for “Audio inputs and outputs”
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and the restart the computer if prompted
Note: Disconnect the headphones/headsets before following these steps.
Let us know the results once you have tried these steps. Hope this information was helpful.
