SQL Server 2022 expected release date?

Question

We migrated our business solution from SQL Server 2017 to SQL Server 2022 CTP 2.0
Everything works well and im trying out some of the new features. Im very pleased, it was a smooth migration.

Does somebody has a hint, some information about the ETA of SQL Server 2022 RTM?

Microsoft has made it very clear that they will respect the year. Thus, we can expect it to be released at latest 2022-12-31.

With experience from previous CTP programmes, I would expect a few more CTP 2.x, and then one or two RC before that.

But apart from that, your speculation is as good as mine. Microsoft does not announce release dates months in advance. Or even weeks. They release when it's ready.

Just a note.

When the RTM version is released, pre-release versions are not upgradable to the RTM version. They must be uninstalled and the RTM installed. In most cases the database backups can be restored from pre-release version to RTM, but it is not guaranteed.

I highly recommend you do not use the pre-release versions for anything you want to move to the released version, and only use it for testing.

Im aware of this. We made only a test migration of our business solution from SQL Server 2017 on SQL Server 2022 CTP. This way we could test if our complete solution works on SQL Server 2022. Our customers are still using SQL Server 2017.

Im sorry to revive this topic. The SQL Server 2022 RTM Edition was announced for the 04.11.2022.
But there is still only the SQL 2022 Preview available.

Couldnt find any official release date for RTM.

Does somebody has some information?
