windows explorer jumps to top

Question

This seems to be an ongoing problem. I have folder hierarchies of up to 20 main folders with over 30 sub-folders in some cases. The cursor jumps to the top on many occasions leading me to choose the wrong folders. I have done away with a slideshow, changed the background colour etc but to no avail. Surely this is a simple fix. Microsoft goes on about 'productivity' but this is wasting my time in trying to find the folder I want when it has disappeared out of view.

Can someone give a simple and concise way to stop this happening. I cannot go to Windows 11 as it tells me my PC is not compatible!

I have a drive with 46 main folders, one of these has 38 sub-folders and that folder has many sub-sub-folders with up to 25 more sub folders. I repeat, I am not a computer geek, I want a solution from Microsoft, not geeky things like downloading 3rd party software fixes or tinkering with the registry. This bug is slowing down my productivity because I am having to be very wary when deleting files and moving files around.

I CHALLENGE SOMEONE IN MICROSOFT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM

If I had a car or TV or washing machine and it had a similar problem I would contact the supplier and they would fix it. I would be able to talk/text/phone/email the supplier about the problem and they would do something about it. - why can't we do this with Microsoft? I am a customer of Microsoft, please treat me as such, I have a contract with you and you are not keeping your side of the bargain!

This has now started happening to me to. If I try to view a large number of files in file explorer, the jump to the top routine begins. It doesn't seem to matter if the files are in a list or some sort of thumbnail view, if there are more of them than will fit in the window and I start scrolling down, it jumps to the top of the file list. This is a new problem for me and makes me think there is obviously a bug in Microsoft's Windows 10 OS.

Good luck getting MS to actually address this problem w/out using one of their 'cookbook" canned responses that assumes it's a background color changing issue. They do not listen.

I spoke too soon. The cursor stays put for a few seconds. Very often I am modifying documents on one of my main folders but have opened maybe two/three levels of sub-folders to a folder that contains maybe 200 documents. Typically I will modify a document, then remember to do the same in another document only to find I am back at the C drive.

The fixes you give in your first reply mean nothing to me, I am a trustee of a charity, not a computer geek. I ask the question again, many people have asked the question before me, going back over a number of years, 2015 is the earliest I can find, 'when will Microsoft do something about this problem'. I always update my computer to the updates I receive.

As you will know there is no way that a mere user of Windows can gain the ear of a VP or senior manager, we are blocked from actually talking to someone who has the power to fix this problem once and for all time! If this problem is now over 7 years old I presume nobody who works for Microsoft has read ALL the forums this problem resides in.

Microsoft talks about productivity! I am really sick and tired of trying to trace the folder I was in after the 'jump', it is wasting my time therefore I am NOT productive!

Please, please, if there is someone in Microsoft who is reading this, can they please escalate this problem so it gets fixed.

The saga continues. I upgraded to Windows 11 today. I have not modified a single thing of Windows 11. Yes, you guessed it, File Explorer is still doing it's dance routine.

Really, does nobody from Microsoft read these messages, I dare any person from Microsoft to tell us why this still happens even on Windows 11.

And please don't tell me I have to go fiddling with Registry or use some third party software to solve the problem.

I await something happening but I'm not holding my breath!

Silence from Microsoft, they really don't like us nagging them about simple problems!

Today I wanted to perform a simple action - drag and drop a file from one folder to another. I displayed the main folder which had 39 sub-folders. I clicked on the file I wanted to move and dragged it across the screen to its new home. As I dropped it the display shot up to the top and I had no idea where the file ended up. I did find it eventually, 13 minutes later! Not very productive eh, Microsoft.
