Azure VM - No explorer.exe/desktop

I've created an Azure Windows VM and am trying to connect to the desktop through RDP just to explorer around a bit, but it's just a black screen with cmd prompt.

I've tried launching explorer.exe but it doesn't exist.

Is it possible to do this with the free version? I am using - Standard B1s (1 vcpu, 1 GiB memory)

Sorry I'm a bit of a noob and just trying to learn a few basics, have done a lot of looking around but can't seem to find the answer.

    It looks like you install Windows Server Core.

    What version of windows server did you install?
    Go to Overview and confirm

    Probably at the time of deployment, you selected the Azure edition core. In this case, you need to recreate the VM by selecting an option with the desktop experience, like:
