opening a password protected file

Hi all,

Well, this is something I haven't encountered before, and I'm having problems with it. I sent myself a newspaper from the news service for the blind I use, and it came in a password protected Zip file. When I try to extract the file, a dialog pops up asking for the password, but that dialog only appears for a split second, then appears to disappear without giving me any time to actually enter the required password. How do I access this file?

Any website that would encrypt a share like that is making trouble for it's users. I would get the file another way, like their app. You might want to let them now what you think about this.

I know the password, the email said it was my access code and pin, meaning that if my access code was say 1234567 and my pin was 1234, the password would be 1234567-1234. When using the built in Windows extraction utility, the password dialog comes up for a split second then disappears.

It depends on what program was used to encrypt it. There are several. Ask the sender what program was used and the password, install the program and use the password to open it.

Do I need a third party program like 7zip in order to open this type of file? All I do is right click on the file and choose extract all.

Is this 7Zip, because I've never seen a case of 7Zip file passwording fail in twelve years in forums? I use it myself almost every day for even longer without a single problem. Full guide here:

It sounds like the zip program is malfunctioning, if you cannot get the password box to stay open or find it by hovering your mouse on the open Windows icon on Taskbar to see if it's there to click and bring into focus.

So I'd reinstall the zip program by uninstalling it in App Settings, restart PC, then reinstall the zip program using a fresh download from their official webssite ONLY.
