Windows 10 - unable to install apps

Hi,

One of our employees downloaded an app and tried to install it - he got a message from Microsoft:

When going to the 'Change my app recommendation settings' there was no option to allow apps from outside the store.

I had to access his PC remotely via TeamViewer and log in as admin to enable it, and here is where the problem starts...

In apps and features I can see the following options:

'Allow apps from everywhere' is missing - but OK - I have selected 'Warn me before...'

Navigating back to the installation file and opening it as admin gives me the same window as above - but there is no option to install the app, going again to the settings I see that these were not changed - 'Allow apps from the Store only' is selected - it looks like the settings are not saved.

I tried to replicate this on other machines but I couldn't.

The PC it happens on has no outstanding updates, was restarted and I still can't install this app - any ideas how to install it?

Any ideas how I can make the 'Warn me before...' setting to be applied and not switched to 'Allow apps from the store only'?

Please help.

    Hi Lukasz

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

    Go to System - About

What is the exact edition of Windows 10 installed on that system?

    Is that Windows 10 S?

If so, that needs to be switched out of S mode:

    Open the Settings App

Go to Update and Security - Activation

In the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, select Go to the Store. (If you also see an "Upgrade your edition of Windows" section, be careful not to click the "Go to the Store" link that appears there.)

On the Switch out of S mode (or similar) page that appears in the Microsoft Store, select the Get button.

After you see a confirmation message on the page, you'll be able to install apps from outside of the Microsoft Store.

It could be the Internet zone flag, that caused the issue. I've described a similar case within the following blog post.
