Outlook for mac 2016 Turn off the SEND shortcut

Has anyone had success changing the fn+command+enter shortcut to send emails?  I must have sent 5 emails prematurely this week. This is driving me absolutely nuts and I hope someone in this community can help.

I have changed the mac keyboard settings and added a very difficult shortcut for the "send" feature.  I restart the app and Outlook will recognize the new shortcut, which is a great first step to thinking you fixed this issue.   But, if you go ahead use the original fn+command+enter key, your email will still send!

We were having the same trouble and found the solution on Stack Exchange:

Go to System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyboard shortcuts -> App Shortcuts. Now add Outlook to the list and make sure that "Menu title" states "Send". After that choose whatever cryptic shortcut you are sure you will never accidentally hit.

We quit Outlook and relaunched, and Command+Enter no long sends.

    Hi jinle_5454,

    Thanks for clarifying the situation.

I can now reproduce the same behavior as you in the Outlook 2016 for Mac client. After doing some research and consulting, it’s not feasible to disable the Command + Enter (Actually, you don’t need to press fn based on my test.) keyboard shortcut to send emails in Outlook 2016 for Mac. (Command + Return can be adjusted using the method above, but not Command + Enter.) Thanks for your understanding.

Moreover, you are welcome to submit feedback via this link:

    Thanks,

    Hi jinle_5454,

As I know, the default keyboard shortcut for sending emails in Outlook 2016 for Mac is Command + Return. And to change it to a strange keyboard shortcut that we’ll never type, you can refer to the following steps:

    1. Go to System Preferences & select Keyboard
    2. Press the Shortcuts tab
    3. On the lefthand side, select App Shortcuts
    4. Click the Add button
    5. Select Microsoft Outlook from the Application drop down list
    6. Set the Menu Title to ‘Send
    7. In the keyboard shortcut box, hold down whatever strange keyboard shortcut that you’ll be sure you never type.
    8. Restart Outlook

NOTE: In step 5, please make sure the Outlook client you selected is the one in use if you have multiple versions of Outlook 2016 for Mac installed on the Mac.

If the issue persists, I’d like to collect the following information for further troubleshooting:

    1. Like mentioned in this article, the keyboard shortcut to send an open message is Command + Return. Thus, may I confirm if you’ve customized the keyboard shortcut already since it’s fn+command+enter from your side?

    1. A relevant screenshot about the modified shortcut for Send in App Shortcuts page.
    2. The detailed version of Outlook 2016 for Mac (In Outlook> About Outlook) like 15.32.0 (170309).

    Thanks,

    Sam

    1. You are correct, the keyboard shortcut is Command+Return by default.   I have customized the keyboard shortcut to a difficult Option+Shift+Q.   See screen shots.   This is confirming that the Microsoft application is accepting my customization.
    2. After customizing this shortcut you can STILL send emails by pressing fn+command+enter.  I don't know why this happens but it a frequent shortcut key I use on mac os and causing me all kinds of grief.   Try this for yourself.  Confirm you are able to send emails after a customized shortcut is enabled and you can still send by pressing fn+command+enter
