MX records differences

Hi,

Recently I had to change MX records to point to office365.

In the past for exchange online the MX record was something like domain.mail.protection.outlook.com but now is something like domain.mail.eo.outlook.com.

So what is the difference between thoose two?

Thank you very much for your reply.

After more research and consultation, I'd like to share you the information that both “*.protection.outlook.com” and “*.eo.outlook.com” are SMTP endpoints so there should not be a difference.

However, domains with "*.eo.outlook.com" are old FOPE endpoints we used to have, given this reason, it is highly recommended to change to use the *.protection.outlook.com" ones for your custom domain in Office 365.

    Thanks for your post. I just checked this on my side and the MX record is still domain.mail.protection.outlook.com, see below picture:

    Given this situation, please sign into Office 365 admin center > Settings > **Domains**page and check if you get the same result as mine.

    Additionally, regarding your concerns about the MX record "domain.mail.eo.outlook.com", since I didn't find any information about this, may I confirm where did you get this information?

    Also, if you don't change to this one and continue to use set the MX record like “domain.mail.protection.outlook.com”, will you receive any error message when clicking the button "Check DNS“ in the admin center > Domain settings page?
