Has anyone experienced the issue where the taskbar is not visible after installing the Windows Update KB5039302?

Hello,

I recently encountered an issue where my taskbar disappeared after installing the Windows Update: “2024-06 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5039302).”

Problem:

  • Taskbar completely disappeared.
  • Restarting Windows Explorer and other common troubleshooting steps didn’t help.
  • Run SFC and DISM didn’t help.
  • Repair Windows apps via PowerShell didn’t help.
  • Check for Graphics Driver Updates didn’t help.
  • Create a New User Account didn’t help.

My Solution:

  • I started uninstalling windows updates starting from last one and after uninstalling the problematic update (KB5039302) and restart the taskbar returned.

Question: Has anyone else experienced this issue, and is there a way to prevent this update from causing problems in the future?

Thank you for your assistance!

If this doesn't work, please try again in a few hours and see if the said update appears or you may need to Pause updates for 2 weeks until new updates are released on Patch Tuesday next month.

I had this very issue, only way to get it back was to uninstall the update. Everything else I tried failed. Then a couple days later windows auto installed that update again and same thing happened. Had to uninstall it a second time.

Hi, good day! I'm John Dev a Windows user like you and I'll be happy to assist you today. I know this has been difficult for you, Rest assured, I'm going to do my best to help you.

Microsoft has begun implementing and releasing Optional preview updates that are typically released on the 3rd or 4th week of every month. These updates allow admins to test the patch before its mandatory launch on Patch Tuesday (2nd week of the month). If you are not experiencing any issues with your system, there is no need to install the preview update.

I recommend using the “Show or Hide Updates” troubleshooter to hide the preview update. Windows Update won’t install hidden updates. Run the troubleshooter then please try to hide the Cumulative Update Preview (KB5039302) that will show in the list. You may try restarting your pc if it helps.
