Hello,

2024-11 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5048239) keeps installing when I check for Updates after the first download and installation.

After each installation I get a You're up to date message.

2024-11 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5048239) was successfully installed on my computer on Nov 12, 2024.

Many people don't have the confidence/knowledge to fix some computer problems on their own.

Maybe Microsoft will do/say something about this issue.

How do I fix this problem?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Same here. This just started happening tonight. Looking at my update history, I saw that this very same update successfully installed back in November, so it makes no sense that it would suddenly start installing again (repeatedly, every time I check) tonight. I checked for updates as recently as the day before and there was nothing. Could this be some issue on Microsoft's end?

    1. Please open Disk Management and maximize it. Adjust the column widths in the top pane to make all the entries visible.
    2. Open Command Prompt (admin) and run:
    • reagentc /info
    • dir c:\windows\system32\recovery /a
    • reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v WinREVersion

    Post the output.

    1. Share the following log files on OneDrive.
    • C:\Windows\Logs\WinREAgent\setupact.log
    • C:\Windows\Logs\WinREAgent\setuperr.log
    • C:\Windows\Logs\Dism\Dism.log

This update will not be offered if your Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) meets any of the following conditions:

    • If the WinRE recovery partition does not have sufficient free space, see the NOTE in the "Summary" section. The note provides instructions about how to increase the available free space in the WinRE recovery partition.
    • If the WinRE recovery partition was manually updated by using the procedure in Add an update package to Windows RE and is already up to date.
    • If the WinRE image has a version greater than or equal to version 10.0.19041.5125. To determine the version of your WinRE image, check the WinREVersion registry value at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion.
    • If your running PC does not have a WinRE recovery partition. To verify if you have WinRE enabled, run the following command in an elevated command prompt: reagentc /info. If WinRE is enabled, you will see Windows RE status in the output with a value of Enabled. In this scenario, this update might be needed.

This particular update installed successfully for me in November 2024, and is trying to install again today -- over and over and over... -- each time "successfully".

I sought to follow the WinRE partition resize instructions without success because "OEM partition" cannot be resized. It was way bigger than needed anyway, so I doubt that will fix it either.

I would offer the following suggestion so that the continuous updating stops. Pause updates as far out as possible (Feb 15 for today) under the "advanced options" and hope (without hope really) that Mr. Softee fixes their mess.

Come Feb 15, updating will resume, and after it does, if the problem persists then pause it again. At least you'll be able to use the machine.

NOTE: Defender virus signature updates can be had MANUALLY under the Security Center.
