My PC has suddenly become so slow it's unusable

So my PC was running fine up until last week. All of a sudden I went to turn it on, when it starts up it is too slow and laggy to do anything. I can't even open my settings. Is this a Virus or is there some other problem?

My specs are still fairly up to date and my storage has plenty of space left so that shouldn't be the issue. Do you guys have any advice for me? Thank you

    Hi Stephen

Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)

    Choose the Processes Tab

Leave that window open to monitor your system

When your system is slow/lagging, is your Hard drive, CPU or RAM overly busy at that time?

If so, click on the appropriate column header, so the arrow faces down

What are the top 5 processes at that time?

The problem is that I can't even open the task manager, its that slow.

This sounds like you have some 3rd party program that is using your memory.

    Hi Stephen,

Press the Shift Key and click Restart

Your PC will boot into the Windows Recovery Environment

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Repair

See if Windows startup can repair itself

If the above does not resolve this, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - System Restore

Check to see if you have a restore point you can go back to

How much RAM does the computer have?  If only 4 GB increase to 8 GB or more.

    Its 8GB 😥
