What is A Tenant and what is the relationship with a Teams Account / licence...?

Hi there,

I have to create a set-up including 2 Remote Assist accounts and 2 additional Microsoft Teams accounts for my organization, but

I am really confused with all the terms and licences and cannot really find well-defined information of what I need,

I need to create a set-up and explain on a hands-on meeting, the various communication/ connection ways between Remote Assist and Teams members, so I need at least 3 tenants and that is all I have understood...

So can someone please explain

  1. What is a tenant?
  2. Can a licence/account be moved to another tenant? (under what conditions?)
  3. Are tenants free?
  4. What are the prerequisites and costs for an organisation to have multiple tenants?

And finally, any advice before the registrations to the accounts/ licence acquisition, are welcome..

Thanx

Hi Spyros, my name is Jose. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Windows user like you. I'll be glad to help you today.

A tenant is the official name for a Microsoft 365 organization. You can identify a Microsoft tenant by it domain that end onmicrosoft.com.

Subscriptions can not be moved or migrated between tenants. The account data can be migrated. In many cases a third party services is required.

A tenant is free. In a tenant under a Microsoft account you can host Teams free, Azure (many services are free for one year) and Office online.

As I said before, tenants are free. If you have a good internet connection and a computer to connect to the services, you don't need any other prerequisites.

Are you planning to roll out Microsoft Teams free or Teams for business?

We were thinking to start with the free version, just to figure out how this system works and later decide how many accounts/ seats our organization needs.

Our purpose is the have 2 Accounts with Remote Assist (@ hololens device & mobile device) and 2 supporters with Teams accounts.

As far as I can understand so far, we need:

    2 x Remote Assist Licences

4 x Teams Accounts  (2 for the Remote Assist accounts + 2 supporters)

I am a little bit confused about whether we also need another Licence for Microsoft365 Organization, or not, or any other needed licence, and whether the last one should be one person (email) for the aforementioned 4.

Moreover, I saw the youtube videos and wondering if we can test the scenarios with two or more tenants in an organisation...

    Any tips or Advice?

No, you don't need Microsoft 365 license.
